PILPG Update
Iraq's Political Compact
The Boston Globe, 13 August 2005

Below is a link to an op-ed on the Iraqi constitutional process arguing that many of the concerns with the draft Iraqi constitution are misplaced.   The constitution must be understood as a political compact and not necessarily as a finely-tuned legal document.

The op-ed was drafted by PILPG Executive Director Paul Williams and appeared this weekend in the Boston Globe. Paul led a PILPG team which recently returned from Iraq.

They were in Iraq at the request of the chair of the Constitution Drafting Committee to provide comparative analysis and technical legal assistance during the drafting process.

The op-ed can be found on the PILPG website at http://www.pilpg.org/publications/editorials/iraqcompact.html
