Cyprus Project a

Project Description

The Public International Law & Policy Group is providing legal assistance to the Cyprus-EU Association in Northern Cyprus. In the past, the Public International Law & Policy Group also advised the government of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The Public International Law & Policy Group is providing legal analysis of the Annan Plan and crafting legal strategies to assist Northern Turkish Cypriots in their exercise of the constitutional right to vote and be elected in the Republic of Cyprus.

In April 2006, members of the Public International Law & Policy Group traveled to Cyprus to meet with representatives from the government.  While in Cyprus Executive Director Paul Williams presented a paper on recent developments regarding self determination and former Project Manager Ellee Walker presented a paper on the electoral rights of Turkish Cypriots.

PILPG has partnered with Vinson & Elkins to provide our Cypriot clients with legal assistance to challenge the exclusion of Northern Turkish Cypriots from the electoral list and to present these claims in European and international courts.
