PILPG is assisting the Sudan Peace Support Project (SPSP or Project) in their efforts to support the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan (CPA). The overriding goal of the Project is to keep the Sudanese Peace partners and the international community diligently engaged in the implementation of the agreement between the Government of the Sudan and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement and Army. The Project pursues these objectives through observation, documentation, reporting, and engagement on the developments in the implementation of the CPA. The SPSP encompasses the Sudan Peace Support Council (consisting of regional experts and former diplomats) to which expert studies and reports are submitted and analyzed, so that the Project can engage the Parties in a constructive dialogue and recommend measures to reinforce the CPA. The Unites States Institute for Peace and the Open Society Institute are among the funders of this project.

It offers young professionals the chance to participate in a demanding, yet richly rewarding, set of experiences that expose young professionals to cutting-edge questions in international law and teaches essential lawyering skills. The lab’s weekly meetings emphasize the interrelationship between legal theory and practice. Young professionals work in groups on high-profile legal projects and serve the needs of real-world clients. Past clients range from international organizations such as the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, to non-governmental human rights organizations, to foreign governments confronting difficult international law issues, to branches of the U.S. government such as the State Department and the Department of Defense. For example, young professionals have provided support to on-going treaty negotiations, helped to shape pending legislation both domestically and in foreign countries, and provided support to Human Rights litigation.
